Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto III is an open-world action-adventure video game developed by DMA Design (now Rockstar North) and published by Rockstar Games, released on October 23, 2001. It is the first Grand Theft Auto game with a third-person, 3D perspective, setting a precedent for the series.
The game takes place in Liberty City, a fictional city parodying New York. It features 3 main islands: Portland, Staunton Island, and Shoreside Vale, which are unlocked as the story progresses.
The player takes control of Claude, a man who was arrested for a robbery at Liberty City Bank, where he was betrayed and shot by his then-partner, Catalina, at the scene of the crime. Claude must carry out missions for contacts within the Leone crime family, working his way up through various gangs and organizations. The story features a total of 50 missions.
